When you start your online wellness business – whether you’re a registered dietitian, health coach or other wellness expert – you may not know exactly what you want your website to look like, and after running your business for a while, you may realize you want to redesign your website for better SEO.
Why would you want to redesign your website for better SEO?
This can happen for a variety of reasons. When your’e starting out, you’re likely trying to get as many eyes on your content and website as possible, so you’re trying to appease a multitude of audiences, tehrefore, watering down your messaging and focus. That is totally normal and expected.
Once you’ve gotten into your groove and found common themes among your clients and/or customers, you’ll most likely update your offerings, content topics and overall marketing messaging. This is a natural process as an entrepreneur. The longer you’re in business, the more honed in and niched down you get based on who you’re serving on a regular basis.
When that happens, you adjust your messaging in as many places as possible. But if you created your website as a general catchall for anyone looking for something remotely related to health and wellness, you may need a complete redesign and the help of a professional to optimize your site to maximize traffic from your niche audience.
Another reason you may want to redesign your website for better SEO is because you’ve changed or pivoted your business. Just because you change directions doesn’t mean you need to scrap everything you’ve already created. Chances are if you’re still in the health and wellness space, you can repurpose your existing content and update it so it can serve you in your new direction.
A Case Study: Revolution Dietitian
Shannan came to me looking for assistance creating a cohesive experience for her audience when they visit her website. With all of my potential clients, it starts with a discovery questionnaire, and on Shannan’s she provided incredible specifics and details about what she was looking for … showing me that she’d done homework and really understood the direction of her business. One of her comments was this:
I need the most help with web design. Right now, my logo is the only cohesive “look” I have for the brand. And if there is an SEO add-on, I’d like to hear about it. Moving forward, I need a website that converts. Also, I’m not really interested in using the site like a static brochure. I’d like to learn about how I can update when it makes sense (i.e. attention bar for a week during a pre-launch period).
Shannan understood where her website was falling short and not meeting her (or her audience’s) needs. We worked together on developing a framework and structure for her new website look, as well as working through a plan for the best SEO (search engine optimization) keywords that she a) wanted to be known for and b) had content that lined up with.
Revolution Dietitian: Before & After
After the planning and content organization/development stage, and after Shannan approved mockup designs, we moved into the design phase and transitioned her site from her DIY website to a redesigned website that was user-friendly, SEO-friendly and mobile-friendly. Small But Important Improvements Go Far
After a month of having the new site up, Shannan was seeing high traffic and saw her website show up on the first page of Google when googling her business, whereas before working together, she wasn’t seeing it there. While some of the designs may seem quite different, the most important work we did (she did) was on identifying and working out SEO keywords and keyphrases that she wants to be associated with.
While an aesthetically-pleasing website is important for brand cohesion, it’s kind of useless to have a pretty website if no one can find it or no one visits it or the content you create.
Here’s what Shannan had to say about working together on this website redesign for better SEO:
“Hiring Heather was the best business investment I’ve made to date. Heather’s approach and seamless process made communicating my vision and bringing the new site to life so easy. She designed a site that is true to the brand and I feel confident sharing with the world. My website finally shows up #1, page 1 for Google search results after only 1 week since we launched the new site. More importantly, I now have a site that I feel proud to show prospective clients and people interested in learning more about nutrition and longevity.” – Shannan Bergtholdt, Revolution Dietitian
